Music on the web is a growing industry, for both commercial music videos, radio stations and band sites to unsigned acts and websites set out to promote them such as GarageBand.com and peoplesound.co.uk.

One of the old heroes of unsigned music was mp3.com, for a long time the place a band/musician/spoon player, whatever could go to have their music reach the wider audience. This site has gone, probably to be replaced with a commercial site selling commercial, label based music downloads.

Music on the web has a bad name due in part to download programmes such as the original 'napster' now a soft drinks company - no seriously, napster is all nice and officlal, selling music downloads for the big labels.

You can also now download 'free' music from Napster clones such as Kazaa or eDonkey, although these apps could be better used to help spread the word about unsigned music.
